Morgan Cemetery

aka Benson-Morgan Cemetery

This cemetery is somewhat a mystery but perhaps of interest to researchers.

The land was being improved by the Morgan family who were waiting for their land grant. In 1842, Peter Morgan, the father, was killed while plowing in the Bois d'Arc Creek bottom land.

A few years later the James Benson family received the land Patent for that same tract of land. When they moved on the property there were at least 3 wooden Bois d'Arc stobs marking graves. They did not know who was buried there but old timers pointed out that it was the Morgan family there.

The location was near the Sash Community & South of the Bois d'Arc creek. That would be near hwy 100 south of the creek and east of present Caddo National Grassland & Lake Crockett. A survey report and land transactions would solve the location. According to Billy Suiter, "Records in the courthouse prove the statements to be true. Peter Morgan's coffin cost $12."

Anyone having any information on Peter Morgan and his descendants, please send it in to us. If we can't honor him with a cemetery, we can keep his memory alive here on this page.
