Buchanan Cemetery

7 Apr 2003, it was reported the Buchanan Cemetery had been vandalized, every stone toppled and many broken. Charles Durham provided the photos of the vandalism. Although the more recent photo above (June 2008) shows the cemetery in need of a good mowing, we're glad to see the stones appear to have been repaired.
Historical marker: "Alexander Buchanan (1796-1846), his wife Delilah (1806-1870), and their eleven children moved to the Republic of Texas from Illinois in 1844. They settled on a 320-acre farm at this site in January 1846. Alexander Buchanan died that same year and was buried on his farm in what became the Buchanan Cemetery. Delilah Buchanan continued to live on the farm until her death and was buried next to her husband. Some of their children and descendants, many of whom became Fannin County business and civic leaders, also are interred in the family graveyard."
This cemetery was walked and indexed by Susan Hawkins many years ago. She later received additional information from Charles Durham a descendant of Joe Musser and Mary J. Buchanan Musser. Added information from Charles is indicated with an asterisk [*]. Charles also reported that Buchanan Cemetery hosts a reunion each year in April at Randolph.
