Just at the intersection of CR2285 & CR2290 north of FM1396, is the entrance to the Caddo National Grasslands. You can park in their lot and enter though the pedestrian gate. Head east and a little north toward a falling down corral to a rutted road through the grass heading North. Follow this road until you hit a fenceline. This is the south end of the cemetery and the only visible gravestone will be in plain sight.

Hudsonville Cemetery

Photo of Grave of Wm. Jasper Baker at Hudsonville Cemetery.

The fenced area surrounding the Hudsonville Cemetery encloses about an acre or more but only 4 visible signs of stones have been found. Other than the Hudsonville Cemetery sign (see inset at left) the plot in the above photo is about the best reason to say, "Yes, there is a cemetery here."

Just to your left of the above stone there is a single slotted stone base but the tabbed marker is no longer present. The proximity to the stone of William Jasper Butler inside the fenced plot, clealy implies some direct relationship to him. Since he is listed as a widow on his death certificate, perhaps it is the grave of his wife.

The other two markers we discovered were similar in appearance and relatively near each other (10 -15 feet) when considering an acre of cemetery. Each contained only a surname: Langston & Hudson. We attempted a thorough search but there was a thick layer of leaves throughout the entire area. Perhaps a good clean up would reveal more hidden treasures but these were the only markers we found.

The Hudsonville Cemetery is, apparently, the same as the "Orphanage Cemetery." The GPS coordinates we took at Hudsonville in 2008 were almost identical to those posted by the state of Texas when referencing the "Orphanage Cemetery". There was a "Holiness Orphan's" Home" at Hudsonville which closed in 1913 and consolidated with the "Holiness Orphan's" Home" at Pecan Gap. The Hudsonville branch had been run by Oscar Hudson and his wife who were both Holiness Ministers. Mr. Hudson purchased land at Pilot Point and moved to that area along with his charges.
