Map showing Belfountain Cemetery.

Latitude: +33° 41' 30.42"
Longitude: -96° 13' 57.12"

At the intersection of FM 1753 and FM 274 in the north end of Ravenna bear right on FM 274 and proceed approx. 6/10 mile to CR-1145. Turn east/right onto CR-1145 and proceed approx 8/10 mile to a not so obvious lane on the right/east. This lane is about 50 yards south of a yellow/brown brick house on the same side of CR-1145. Proceed down the lane about 1/4 mile to cemetery in the edge of woods. (This "lane" is not the road seen crossing the map inserts and bending back south to the cemetery. This is a cross pasture "road" seen as a tiny line on the sattelite map leading directly East to the woods.) The cemetery is fenced on four sides and fairly well tended.

Upper Union (Belfountain) Cemetery

The African American Belfountain Church (north of Ravenna) merged with the Siloam Church (even farther north) and formed the Union Church. The Siloam Cemetery then came to be called the Union Cemetery. The Belfountain Cemetery came to be known as Upper Union Cemetery.

This cemetery is about an acre in size and sparsely populated by markers. We suspect many unmarked graves. The oldest engraved stone marks the burial of three children of Henry and Callie Anthony, the oldest born & died 16 Jun 1885. The next oldest marker indicates a burial in 1936 with the majority of burials beginning in the 1950s with marked burials as recent as 2005.

We will be adding to the alphabetical listing from death records, obituaries and family information. The plot ordered list will remain as we found the cemetery in March 2009.

Alphabetical list with some names added from other sources.
